Artist's Description

Inspired by the works of William Merritt Chase, one of Candace Whittemore Lovely’s favorite painters and one of the first American Impressionists, this piece features a model the artist discovered in Sam’s Club. Beyond the primary subject, the focus moves to the artist’s appreciation for beach landscapes and foliage, capturing the sea oats in bloom, trailing vines, and the open feeling of ocean air. Painted on Burkes Beach, Hilton Head Island S.C., this is just one installment in a decades-long body of work categorized by white dresses, the eras of which are differentiated by black, pink, white, or the absence of bows.
