Locally operated Dick Blick Gallery Presents: "Cre8ive Figures": A show by two artists: Candace Whittemore Lovely and Annabel Lee Hammet, from different areas of the country they come together to expose form on canvas. The main body of work consists of figures in oils on canvas, painted aluminum sculpture and paint marker drawings on paper. http://www.candacelovely.com http://www.belpaint.net Opening- The show hangs throughout the month of January.

Opening event will be from 6-8pm on Thursday, January 9th.

Expect The Unexpected With Candace Lovely

Impressionist artist Candace Lovely's exhibit "Expect the Unexpected: An Evening with Candace Lovely" opens from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 11 at ARTworks in Beaufort.
The exhibit takes place in an unusual place -- around a semi-circular bar inside ARTworks.

A Hilton Head Island resident, Lovely spent several years drawing the show's 13 works in Hilton Head bars.

The ARTworks bar is often used to sell sodas, beer and wine during theater intermissions, but this is the first time it has been the focal point of an exhibit, said J.W. Rone, ARTworks executive director.

"Expect the unexpected," Lovely said. "That is what a bar is -- you go there to find something new."

While impressionist painters typically use dots and dashes, Lovely uses squares.

"I'll be playing with your head again," she said. "I like to fool people. ... My work is different from when you look at something from far away to up close. It is not the same."

"God Bless America" runs through Oct. 22 at ARTworks, 2127 Boundary St., Beaufort. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 7.

The political world is as divisive as ever these days, but artist Candace Whittemore Lovely says her "God Bless America" exhibit is a way to get beyond the partisanship to focus on peace.
"Its purpose is to bring beauty to politics and to encourage people to vote," Lovely said. "I feel that I am making a movement in...
