About Candace Lovely

Candace Lovely Renowned Impressionist Candace Whittemore Lovely combines her romantic vision, years of study, and technical ability to capture the hearts and minds of an ever-growing list of patrons. Whether painting treasured landscapes, commissioned portraits, or people at work and at play, Candace captures the American Spirit with a distinctly feminine flair and presents a pleasing view of contemporary life.
Internationally respected art dealer James Bakker and The Boston Globe have called Lovely 'the Grand Dame of Boston painters'. Her inspiration and technique come from the masters and traditions of The Boston School, America's oldest continuing school of painting. It is a philosophy based on sound drawing, sensitivity to line and values, and an impressionistic observation of light and color.

Her paintings appear in the books, "Realism in Revolution: The Art of The Boston School" and "Interior Visions." Having won numerous awards and distinctions for her artwork, the New York Graphic Society and Kennedy Studios have reproduced many of her paintings as limited edition prints and posters for a national and international audience. In addition, her work has been featured in Cape Cod Life, Yankee Magazine, Hilton Head Monthly, and Pink Magazine. In 1991, Lovely was commissioned to paint the official portrait of First Lady Barbara Bush.

Candace spent her early years studying with masters of The Boston School, including the late Robert Cormier and Paul Ingbretson. She is a distinguished member of several art organizations including The Copley Society of Boston. After receiving her third award in the Society's juried shows, she was accorded the designation "Copley Master" in the summer of 1988. She has been voted one of the University of Vermont's most prominent alumni and is a member of the Forman School Hall of Fame at UVM.

Lovely maintains a studio on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina where she lives with her West Highland Terrier, Lily, and Gray Tabby, Dixianna.
